The Biogeochemistry Laboratories are located in the School of Earth Sciences at Bristol University and are one of four facilities that comprise the Bristol Biogeochemistry Research Centre.  The laboratories house a range of chromatography, microbiology, mass spectrometry and spectroscopic instrumentation for the study of the biogeochemistry of element and energy cycles in soil and aquatic environments.  Visitors and external users are welcome and should contact Edward Hornibrook for further details.

The NERC have awarded funding for a 42-month study of methane cycling in northern lakes.  The study begins in October 2011 and will investigate accumulation and abrupt emission of methane from North American lakes in relation to seasonal changes in thermal stratification of the water column.  Study sites range from northern Wisconsin to Victoria Island in the Canadian Arctic.  Two positions (a postdoctoral research assistant and a technician) for the project will be advertised in the autumn of 2011.
